Dunedain: I'm sure someone will jump in with a link to that WT video that I'm certain has been a huge source of embarrassment to them. If not, I'll try to fetch it.

Offering Magazines: It would not be appropriate to distribute magazines indiscriminately to those who have not shown interest
That rules out placements in laundramats, doctors waiting rooms, those wedged in doorknobs?
Thanks, Watchtower!

Dissenters in Watchtower History: Differing Departures
by slimboyfat ini'm reading an excellent book about defectors from the mormon church called differing visions: dissenters in mormon history.
through a collection of essays from many academic authors it looks at the life stories of dissenters and reasons for departure, as well as analysing the impact of their dissent on the church itself.
fascinating stuff and makes me wish there was a similar volume looking at the key dissenters from jws/watchtower and the impact they had.

On this board there have been some great posts by some very eloquent writers.
Alan Feuerbacher: An early JWD poster who wrote numerous in-depth essays on various Watchtower doctrinal issues. His arguments continue to be top notch today.
Terry Walstrom: A very prolific JWN poster at times. An out-of-the-box thinker.

Any funny stories of when a"brother" giving a talk, said something "funny" or "questionable", and didn't even realize it?
by Dunedain inthere were always all types of speakers in the org.
myself, growing up a "witness", must have heard all types of talks, and given by all manner of speakers, especially on sundays, when almost every week we would get a "visiting" brother giving the public talk.. sometimes, you would have a "great" speaker, all fluent and animated.
other times we would get a comical speaker, one who would maybe purposelly get a few laughs outta the audience.

A local elder in one of his first public talks was referring to that horrible bubonic plague in the late middle ages. The fact that he used an incorrect phrase, Blue Bonnet Plague, three times showed that he knew absolutely nothing about what he was talking about.

I don't remember why they met at our New Bedford, MA, tenement, a $5 weekly cold water flat. Mom took home some $37 per week and Dad was disabled. There were no food stamps, no SSI.
While we couldn't afford one, the 3 prominent servants (they were called) gathered there to collect their order for a portable audio recorder for which they paid some $100 each. All Dad and I could do was lust for a machine that could magically store and play back keynote talks from circuit and district speakers. Each of the servants tried out his new toy as that reel-to-reel device (luggable at some 30 pounds, my estimate) stored and played back our voices with amazing clarity. They would never miss each glimmer of new light from the platform again. For several years, these monstrosities made their way into many kingdom halls of that day. Len Miller.

I just subscribed to Amazon Prime with the intent on watching Downton Abbey . We will probably unsubscribe because unlike Netflix the closed captioning does not work on our vizio tv.
